When it rains it pours...

The kids were delighted when we brought Cyrus home, but what they really wanted was a girl-cat in the hopes of eventually having kittens.  Kittens are a lot of fun so we agreed that we would find a young female, thinking that she would have her first litter in the spring.  It turns out we didn't have to wait for either the she-cat or spring.  Kittens have arrived!  We found three in our barn.  Here's one that is tame enough to pick up...

Isn't she pretty?

It doesn't seem likely that the kittens would have been born there.  The kids would have noticed them - or their mother going in and out -  long before now.  We're thinking that the mother moved them there recently after discovering a steady supply of cat food left out for Cyrus.  Now the kids have the happy task of taming them. This white one is well on its way.  The other two are brown and have not been caught yet.

And now for a name.  Any suggestions?

Thomas continues to do very well.  He sings and plays and chatters just as if nothing ever happened.  But we discovered that he can't handle van rides very well yet.  The motion makes his head and tummy hurt.  So we've  had to change a few plans.  We had hoped to go on a few family outings before summer was over.  But it won't be a family outing if we have to leave one behind.  We'll do those things later this year, and if not, there's always next year. :)  And thankfully we have understanding family and friends.  Our get-together with Gerald's family will be right here at our house for Thomas' sake.  And our friends from up north that we had hoped to visit are coming down to see us instead. :)

And as for me, I've been busy cleaning, sorting and organizing.  Before we begin the new study season, I'd like to feel that we're on top of the housework.  We could do math with dirty windows and disorganized cupboards, of course, but it feels good to have them done. :)  Then there's the new schedules to put together, and new curriculum to become familiar with and teacher's manuals to read through...

Boys....why do they delight in disgusting things?

On Monday we had our septic tank pumped out.  The boys were leaning over the deck railing to get as good a look as they could.  Then, on Tuesday, I made them a green smoothie.  One of them came up with the idea that his cup was the tank, his straw the hose and he was the truck.  And they all joined in with a long, noisy sluuuuuuuuurp!  :^{

*Sigh*

Glad to hear that Thomas is continueing to heal. I hope that he can hadle the van rides soon.

The kitten is indeed very cute. Emily named one of her little kittens Felina and another Fur-Elise. ;)

You will have to start calling the green smoothies "Septic Smoothies". :P Living with boys is sure a lot of fun!

Mia is wondering what happened to the baby birds that you were taking care of???

Mel,
Hahaha. That title would have been purrfect. (Ouch)
Is Mia thinking of the eggs the girls were trying to hatch? After weeks of having them under the heatlamp with no birdies appearing they decided to get rid of them. But they were curious to know what happened so they cracked one egg open to find it looked like a boiled egg. I guess it got a little too hot for them. :(

Jenny,
Those kitten names are great!
It had crossed my mind that they would start calling their smoothies sludge, but I haven't mentioned it to them for fear that it would catch on. ;)

What cute kittens!

And what cute boys! Wait until I mention it to my girls. We have farm manure trucks driving by constantly today, so we're in that mode anyhow!

A young girl we know had a head injury in the spring and still suffers from it...and it was not as bad as Thomas's. So expect to be careful for a long, long time. It's hard, but so worthwhile to encourage rest. This girl tried to skimp on rest, and is now paying the price.

Have a great day!
