Exciting things...

It's been an eventful week.

We've been working on a plan for a possible addition on the house.  After lots of measuring, drawing, erasing and more drawing we've come up with something that should meet (most of) our housing needs for years to come and fixes some of the issues we have with the current layout.  Now we need to find a reputable builder who has time to do it before cold weather comes.

Then just when we got the addition plans mapped out our dream house came up for sale.  I've often admired it as we've driven by, thinking of how much it fit our dreams, but was sure it would be way beyond our price range.  When we found out they were asking a reasonable price - something we could afford if our house sold - we HAD to have a look.  It didn't disappoint us.  An amazing 120 year old, meticulously maintained beauty. So we spent a day or two agonizing over it, but now it has already sold.  So it was not the Lord's plan for us to purchase it.  And that's OK.  We've been blessed with a beautiful property and are content to stay here.

This morning we got up extra early and went yardsaling.  Here's what we found....

We've been looking for a used one in good shape for years, and now we have one.  We also picked up a bench sander - something Gerald is excited to have.  We were happy to get 8 grapefruit spoons for 25 cents.  What a find!  Add those to the three we already had and we almost have enough so that no one has to wait their turn to use one. :)

After the yardsales, the six oldest kids and I went on a walk-a-thon to raise money for the local Right to Life.  We did 5km in 1 hour and 15 minutes.  A nice morning stroll. :)  Gerald stayed at the park with the four youngest, where they got to cool off under the sprinklers.

Then even more excitement.  We found a good used 24' above ground pool on Kijiji and bought it this afternoon.  The kids are SO excited.  This is what they thought would never happen.  For years we were opposed to the idea.  With so many little people it just didn't seem like a safe or practical thing to have.  But now with a number of older kids who are good swimmers, we feel more comfortable with the idea.  After the week of hot weather that we've just had, it seems like an awesome idea.

Knowing that our summer will have plenty of upheaval and excitement, we are not planning a vacation. Instead we are hoping to do a few daytrips....take the canoe out, find some bike paths, some afternoons at the beach, or perhaps, just stay home and enjoy being home.

That's enough excitement for one week. I'm feeling ready for a good night's sleep.

G'night,

Wow! You did have an exciting week! I can imagine how you would have felt with that house...contentment seems to require constant flexability doesn't it? So, are you doing to go ahead with your first plan of an addition?
Your yard sale buys are wonderful! I am on the lookout for a bike chariot as well - our old one is tired out.
And a pool...how fun! I am sure that will be a well used item this summer!
Have a restful weekend. :)

Too bad about the other house... I'm sure it would have been a great fit. I am looking forward to seeing your plans for your new addition. I know a good framer :) but I'm not sure you want us all for close quarter neighbors for a while. Enjoy the bike trailer.. our kids are always pulling someone around here. I'm sure the kids will make good use of the pool, especially with the hot summer they are predicting.

Cindy,
We'll get the pool up as soon as we can and you guys can come down and enjoy while Tim builds us the deck! Now, how's that for a plan?

Hi Jenny,
We're really hoping to go ahead with the addition. We have lots of details to work out yet but have contacted a good builder who may have time yet this year. Just have to see how far our budget will take us. :)
